img_5060I live in an old farmhouse near Lampeter, Ceredigion Wales with my family.  I was born in the Carmarthenshire village of Crugybar but spent much of my childhood on the remote South Atlantic island of Tristan da Cunha where my father was Post Master General and Radio Operator. On returning to Wales my parents, Alan and Jean Hemming ran the Post Office at Crugybar.

I was educated at Llandovery County High School and Ammanford Technical College. When I was twenty-one my Dad, by then a professional woodcarver, taught me to carve. For several years I honed my carving skills and made a living creating welsh love spoons.  I began to experiment with larger work and discovered that by using my chainsaw I could take weeks off the carving of a large figure.

I have a Dennis r-series flat bed fire engine to take my carvings to shows and to deliver sculptures.

During the summer I take part in festivals and country shows doing demonstration carving to entertain the public.

In 2008 I was awarded 3rd place at the British Chainsaw Carving Competition At Tatton Park . This is an annual event with carvers from all over the world taking part.

Over the years I have carried out many unique carving commissions for local authorities, Forest Services and private customers.

I am happy to consider further carving commissions large or small.   You can contact me by E-mail.
